Opened in 1898, the Grand Theatre was situated just behind Above Bar, linked to it by the narrow Aslatt's Cut The construction of the Civic Centre in the 1930's caused the new Civic Centre Road to be required which cut through to Above Bar right in front of the theatre. A decline in the theatre's fortunes following the Second World War led to its eventual demolition in 1959. The site is now occupied by an entirely hideous office block.
