Taken from a spot just outside Holyrood church, this view looks north along the High Street towards the Bargate in the distance. On the right, just beyond Aylward & Sons (wine, spirit, beer and stout merchants) at 38 High Street, can be seen the Dolphin Hotel which still trades today. Beyond the Dolphin can be sen the spire of St Lawrence's. The church was closed in 1923 and knocked down shortly after. Most of the buildings on the left were lost during the Second World War. The card offers a good view of one of the city's trams. Specially designed to be able to travel through the Bargate, the 'knifeboard' back-to-back seating on the top deck can be seen here.
