Looking North-West across Southampton. This view clearly shows the waterside nature of Southampton prior to the 1930s when the land reclamation projects began. Most of the water visible here was later reclaimed, destroying the nature of the old town. The Town Quay and Royal Pier can both be seen as can the spires of Holy Rood and St Michael's churches. God's House tower can be seen on the waterfront, along with the Platform Tavern. Many of the buildings shown here were lost during the war but many survive, including the red brick warehouse opposite the Royal Pier.
